FG Plans National Library Remodel to Match Qatar's Standard

Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, announced plans to remodel the National Library of Nigeria to reflect the standards of the National Library of Qatar. During a stakeholders’ meeting, he ordered contractors and consultants to adhere to a new completion timeline or face sanctions.

Alausa stated that the Federal Government is ready to fund the project but will demand accountability and quality from the contractors. The procurement process will be divided into two components: physical infrastructure and furnishing, allowing simultaneous progress.

The National Library project, conceived in 1981 and started in 2006, was expected to be completed in 2008 but remains unfinished. Alausa criticized previous administrations for neglecting education infrastructure, asserting that education is now a priority under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.

He credited Tinubu for innovative financing arrangements and dedicated funding for the library's completion, and acknowledged the contributions of Senator Oluremi Tinubu to the project.
