Obi Declines Umahi's Debate Invitation, Stresses Candidacy

Peter Obi, a presidential candidate from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), responded to an invitation from David Umahi, a minister, to participate in a public debate. Obi stated that he would only engage in debates with other presidential candidates, asserting that his status as a presidential candidate qualifies him for such discussions.

He dismissed Umahi's challenge, which followed criticisms of the current administration's performance, particularly regarding infrastructure. Obi analogized his situation to football, explaining that a team that has not qualified for the World Cup cannot challenge those that have.

He emphasized that only presidential candidates should participate in debates concerning the nation’s highest office, reinforcing the distinction of his candidacy and the qualifications required to engage in such public discussions.
