FG Targets November Completion for N752bn Highway Project

The Federal Government has set a target for the completion of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highway by November, with the total estimated cost reaching N752 billion. Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced this in Abuja, stating that over 80% of the costs for the two major sections managed by the current administration have already been paid.

The highway spans 375 kilometers in one direction, totaling 750 kilometers for both carriageways. The government has previously invested over N200 billion on the section managed by Julius Berger, which has completed 240 kilometers on each carriageway, leaving 140 kilometers (280 kilometers total) to be finished.

Umahi noted that the current administration has successfully completed 118 kilometers of concrete pavement within 30 months, with ongoing work on the remaining 164 kilometers. Additionally, solar-powered streetlights will be installed along the highway, and “superhighway guards” will be deployed to prevent vandalism.
