Trans-Sahara Highway 40% Complete, Says Minister Umahi

On Friday, during an inspection of the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Nasarawa-Abuja corridor in Ebonyi State, Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, reported that Section One of the Trans-Sahara Highway is 40% complete, with over 2,000 Nigerians employed. This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to address South East marginalization.

Umahi highlighted the highway's potential to enhance economic viability and security, stating it reduces distances across Nigeria. He detailed that Section One spans 125.5 km from Ndibe Beach through Onueke, Ezza South, and Ezza North to Ebonyi LGA.

The Federal Government is also dualising 8.9 km to bypass Afikpo town and 2 km in Abomege. Umahi announced two flyovers for Ezza nation and praised contractor Infiouest International and Engineer Mohammed Mustapha for their work.

He noted that the Federal Government has paid N18 billion in Lagos to expedite work and discussed compensation for the Ukwuachi flyover and Benue link road, amounting to N6 billion. Residents of Ado Local Government Area praised the road construction efforts.
