FG Trains Nearly 240,000 Youths Via Academy, Launches Content Challenge

During Wednesday's International Youth Day 2026 observance in Abuja, Minister of Youth Development Comrade Ayodele Olawande revealed that roughly 240,000 Nigerian youths have been trained by the Nigerian Youth Academy. These participants gained digital competencies, employability credentials, and practical skills intended to strengthen entrepreneurial prospects and employment readiness.

Olawande positioned the academy as a cornerstone of government strategy aimed at linking young Nigerians to sustainable economic pathways and livelihood opportunities. The curriculum tackles longstanding deficiencies in vocational training and digital literacy, directly addressing employment barriers that continue to challenge Nigeria's youth sector.

Complementing this training programme, the Federal Ministry unveiled the FMYD Youth Opportunities Content Challenge—a new initiative designed to mobilize young Nigerians' creative talents. Participants will harness their social media influence to spotlight and disseminate information about government-supported opportunities to peers and broader audiences.

This two-pronged approach merges classroom skill-building with grassroots awareness campaigns, thereby expanding access across Nigeria's expansive youth population. The theme selected for International Youth Day 2026—'Different Contexts, Common Aspirations'—framed both announcements.

Omolara Esan, serving as the Ministry's director of information and public relations, released official documentation outlining the training statistics and confirming launch of the content challenge initiative.
