Federal Government Launches Solar Mini-Grid in Kwara

The Federal Government, through the Rural Electrification Agency, inaugurated a 581kWp interconnected solar mini-grid in Oke-Oyi community, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State. This initiative aims to expand electricity access and stimulate economic activities in underserved areas.

Developed by Nayo Tropical Technologies Limited under the Rural Electrification Fund-Interconnected Mini-Grid Acceleration Scheme, the project received support from the German Cooperation and the European Union via the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit. Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, praised President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to improving electricity access.

The mini-grid, featuring 1,336 solar panels and 84 batteries, serves around 13,000 residents and has led to the establishment of various local businesses, including welding and grain milling operations. Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, emphasized the importance of reliable electricity for community development and economic growth.
