FG Encourages Modern Livestock Practices for Pastoralists

The Federal Government of Nigeria has called on the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and other pastoralist associations to promote modern livestock production techniques to improve productivity and livelihoods. This appeal was made by Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, during the National Conference of MACBAN held on 29 July 2026 in Abuja.

The Minister highlighted the importance of pastoralist associations in ensuring that livestock producers benefit from government programs. He announced the upcoming implementation of the National Animal Identification, Tagging and Traceability System, aimed at enhancing livestock identification and health management, facilitating access to international markets, and reducing conflicts.

Maiha also mentioned other initiatives, including the rehabilitation of veterinary clinics and partnerships to improve indigenous breed quality. He urged MACBAN to mobilize members for compliance with the new registration and tagging requirements.

The conference was attended by MACBAN's National Executive Council and other representatives, showcasing unity for sustainable livestock development.
