FG Allocates N6.47tn for Infrastructure Development

Between June 2023 and December 2025, the Federal Government of Nigeria spent N6.47 trillion on strategic infrastructure development, primarily on highway projects, which accounted for over half of the total expenditure. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway received the largest allocation of N2.23 trillion, representing about 34% of the total spending.

The Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway followed with N1.11 trillion, while N489.3 billion was allocated to the Trans-Sahara Superhighway. Together, these three projects accounted for approximately N3.83 trillion of the total infrastructure spending.

The report, part of the Nigeria Reform Scorecard, indicated that the government mobilized N15.8 trillion in additional resources through economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy. Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele explained that the savings from the subsidy were reflected in higher revenue collections, particularly in customs duties and petroleum profit tax.

Other significant expenditures included N366 billion for road emergency interventions and N304.2 billion for the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road, Section II.
