Federal High Court Launches E-Filing System in Lagos

The Federal High Court of Nigeria inaugurated an electronic filing (e-filing) system in Lagos, signaling a transformative shift from traditional paper-based processes. Chief Justice John Tsoho described this transition as inevitable and essential for improving the efficiency of the justice system.

The e-filing platform aims to enhance transparency and eliminate risks associated with physical documents, such as tampering and loss. Every action taken within the system will leave a traceable digital footprint, reducing the possibility of backdating processes.

The system allows litigants to file cases online at any time, eliminating the previous limitation of court registry hours. Justice Kashim Zannah shared experiences from Borno State, where an electronic system successfully preserved case documents during a flood disaster.

The Nigerian Bar Association's representative, Mr. Anen Nwadukwu, expressed support for the initiative, highlighting its potential to improve legal service delivery in Lagos.
