FIFA Sanctions Normalisation Committee for Nigeria Football
FIFA has officially approved the establishment of a Normalisation Committee to oversee the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) until mid-2027. This decision was communicated in a letter to the current head of the federation, Emmanuel Ikpeme.
The approval follows the resignations of NFF president Ibrahim Gusau and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi in August, which were prompted by the failure of various national teams to qualify for significant continental and global tournaments. The Normalisation Committee will be responsible for restructuring the NFF and will be appointed jointly by FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The committee is expected to complete its tasks by the end of May 2027, with new NFF leadership anticipated to take office in June 2027. Members of the Normalisation Committee will not be eligible to contest in the upcoming elections.
Until the committee is formed, the NFF will continue to be managed by Ikpeme.
