Gusau Urges Integrity Among Nigerian Referees in Officiating

Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), addressed Nigerian referees, emphasizing the importance of integrity in their officiating duties, particularly during matches that will be broadcast live on television. He noted that approximately thirty Nigerian referees are currently decorated with FIFA badges and stressed that any misconduct during these matches would lead to the revocation of their badges.

Gusau instructed that referees must not conceal any misconduct and that poor performance would result in disciplinary actions, including the withdrawal of badges. He highlighted the significance of proper officiating for the economic prospects of the league, stating that poor performance could deter sponsors and affect the league's welfare.

Furthermore, he mentioned that there are plans to increase television coverage of matches, with eleven stations currently broadcasting and an intention to expand to thirty by the end of the season. Referees were warned that any complaints regarding conduct must be submitted immediately after games, and no intercession on behalf of misbehaving referees would be tolerated.
