UEFA to Withdraw Boycott Threat Against FIFA Competitions

UEFA is poised to withdraw its threat to boycott FIFA competitions following assurances from FIFA President Gianni Infantino regarding governance changes. This development comes after UEFA's concerns over Infantino's proposal to sell shares in a commercial venture linked to the World Cup to private investors, which led to a potential European boycott last month.

Although Infantino abandoned the proposal, UEFA sought guarantees against similar future attempts. Reports indicate that these assurances have been provided and will be discussed in meetings in Monaco on Thursday.

Consequently, England and other European nations are expected to participate in the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland next week, marking the first FIFA event since the governance dispute. This tournament presents Infantino an opportunity to appear publicly as FIFA president amid ongoing organizational divisions.

The next senior FIFA tournament will be the Women’s World Cup in June 2027, following the FIFA presidential election scheduled for March next year, with Infantino yet to declare his candidacy.
