FIFA Considers Yellow Card Amnesty for World Cup Matches

With the World Cup expanding from 32 to 48 teams, the increased number of fixtures leading up to the semi-finals raises concerns about the likelihood of suspensions in high-stakes games.

FIFA believes that resetting yellow cards after the group stage would offer a fairer balance, as cautions collected during the group stage would not carry over into the knockout rounds, thus protecting marquee fixtures and ensuring star players are less likely to be absent.
