Midnight Fire in Ilorin Damages Two Apartments

A midnight fire, triggered by a power surge, damaged two room-and-parlour self-contained apartments in a residential building opposite Metropolitan Square, off Asa-Dam Road, Ilorin, Kwara State. The Kwara State Fire Service, through its Public Relations Officer, Hassan Adekunle, reported that they received a distress call at about 2:27 a.m. and arrived at the scene by 2:35 a.m., successfully bringing the fire under control by 2:40 a.m.

The affected property included eight self-contained apartments and a storey building with four-bedroom flats, with the fire confined to two of the apartments. Preliminary findings indicated that the fire was ignited by a power surge affecting combustible materials.

Chief Fire Officer Alabi Muhammed advised residents to install surge protection devices, use standard electrical fittings, and conduct regular inspections of electrical wiring. He emphasized the importance of early reporting of fire incidents to improve safety outcomes.

This incident follows another fire outbreak caused by a power surge in a 14-room residential building in Ilorin on July 20.
