Fire Destroys Six Shops in Lagos Market, No Casualties

On Sunday afternoon, a fire incident occurred at approximately 12:26 pm in Aswani Mechanic Village, Isolo, Lagos State, resulting in the destruction of six shops. Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), reported that the fire was caused by a power surge.

Emergency response teams were promptly deployed, and upon arrival, they found that the fire had already gutted several shops. Fortunately, no vehicles were damaged, and there were no casualties.

All traders and artisans in the vicinity were safely evacuated. The quick response of Lagos firefighters and the LASEMA team prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent workshops.

The situation was brought under control, and dampening-down operations were conducted to prevent reignition. Recovery and mop-up operations are currently underway, and the area has been secured for damage assessment.

The Lagos State Government praised the responders for their professionalism and urged market operators to adhere to electrical safety standards.
