Fire Destroys Makeshift Structures in Lagos, No Casualties

A fire incident occurred on 9/10 Abudu Street, Abule Oja, Yaba, Lagos, destroying a cluster of makeshift residential structures. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), led by Permanent Secretary Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that no casualties were recorded thanks to the prompt response from emergency responders.

The response team included officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, UNILAG Fire Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, Nigeria Police Force, and operatives from LASEMA’s Alpha Cobra Base. The coordinated efforts prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings, and an adjoining two-storey building was saved.

Damping-down operations were conducted to extinguish remaining hotspots, and a comprehensive damage assessment is underway. The cause of the fire has yet to be established, and investigations are ongoing.

Dr Oke-Osanyintolu commended the emergency personnel and urged residents to observe fire safety measures.
