FFS Chief Urges Lawmakers to Establish Fire Stations

On International Firefighters Day, Olumod Samuel Adeyemi, the Chief of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), called on lawmakers to fast-track the repeal and enactment of the Federal Fire Service Rescue Act. This initiative aims to establish fire stations across Nigeria, enhancing emergency response capabilities.

Adeyemi highlighted that in the first quarter of 2026, FFS personnel responded to hundreds of incidents, saving 1,700 lives and protecting properties valued at 300 billion Naira. He emphasized the importance of public cooperation during emergencies, urging citizens to respect safety perimeters and support firefighters.

Adeyemi also discussed ongoing efforts to improve the working conditions of firefighters, including promotions for 2,600 officers, welfare programs, and specialized training for new recruits. He noted that these measures are designed to enhance operational effectiveness and ensure the safety of personnel.

The FFS aims to create a safer environment for both firefighters and the communities they serve.
