Five Dead in Kano State Building Collapses

On Saturday, two separate building collapses in Kano State resulted in five fatalities and ten rescues. The first incident occurred at Gaida in Kumbotso, where an incomplete building collapsed on six workers.

The Kano State Fire Service received a distress call at approximately 2:34 pm and dispatched firefighters who rescued two workers, Muhammad Hassan (17) and Khalid Abubakar (19), alive. Four other workers, identified as Sunusi Surajo (18), Bashir Ibrahim (20), Ibrahim Ibrahim (25), and Abubakar (30), were found unconscious and later confirmed dead.

All six victims were taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and handed over to Inspector Adamu Garba of the Kofar Wanbai Police Division. The second collapse occurred at Khadija Idris Bala Islamiyya school in Kurna, Fagge, where firefighters rescued eight of nine affected students.

The ninth victim, Khadija Muhammad (14), was rescued unconscious but later confirmed dead. The victims were handed over to the school headmaster, Muhammad Gambo Usman.

Investigations into the causes of both collapses are ongoing, and the Fire Service has urged adherence to building safety standards.
