A deadly assault unfolded at a mining site in Marit village, situated within Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when gunmen opened fire, killing five workers and injuring two others.
The attack happened near 1 p.m. during active mining operations, according to multiple reports. Rwang Tengwong, representing the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, confirmed the details and expressed deep sorrow over the bloodshed.
The state has witnessed a surge in security apprehensions following this violent episode, as armed assailants repeatedly strike mining operations with alarming persistence. Mourning has enveloped the affected community in the wake of losing five individuals.
Tengwong described this tragedy as another in a troubling pattern of recurring violent incidents that have plagued the region. Local authorities and community representatives have called for intensified protective measures from government security forces to prevent similar incidents in the future.
