Miner Found Dead in Plateau After Reported Killing
Muhammad, a 20-year-old miner, was found dead along the Gana Ropp-Barki Ladi road after he was reportedly killed and dumped while returning from a mining activity on Saturday evening. His body was recovered by relatives following a prolonged search.
Danjuma Ibrahim, a youth leader in the area, confirmed the incident on Sunday. Imam Muhammed Abdullahi, the deceased’s grandfather, described the killing as barbaric, stating that relatives began searching for Muhammad when he did not return home by evening.
They discovered his body around 12 p.m. the next day, noting that he had been killed and macheted. The killing has deeply disturbed the community.
Muhammad was buried on Sunday morning after a funeral prayer in Barkin Ladi town, attended by hundreds of sympathizers. Captain Polycarp Oteh, spokesperson for the state’s Operation Enduring Peace, did not respond to inquiries regarding the incident.
