Wrongfully Dismissed Officers Seek Akpabio's Help

Five police officers from Akwa Ibom State, who were wrongfully dismissed in 2007, are seeking intervention from Senate President Godswill Akpabio after 20 years of pursuing justice. The officers, Sundai Okon, Anthoni Ebong, Joseph Ed, Victor Eb, and Uduak Sampson, were dismissed on grounds of illiteracy.

They were recruited in 2003 and underwent police training, proving their worthiness. In 2019, the National Industrial Court ruled in their favor, declaring their dismissal null and void and ordering their reinstatement along with payment of salary arrears from January 2007 to the present.

Despite the court's ruling, which mandated compliance within 90 days, no action has been taken to implement the judgment. The officers expressed frustration over their situation, highlighting the hardships faced over two decades without employment.

Former Senator Aniekan Bassey previously raised the issue in the Senate, but no progress has been made. The officers are appealing to Akpabio for assistance in enforcing the court's order.
