Youngest Competitor Debuts at U-15 Table Tennis Tourney

Ayomide Omotoso, a five-year-old, made his national table tennis debut at the seventh Adegboyega Efunkoya U-15 National Table Tennis Tournament held in Lagos on Thursday. He became the youngest competitor at the three-day event, which took place at the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere.

Omotoso, the son of Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, faced opponents significantly older than him and lost all his matches. However, he remained enthusiastic about the experience, stating, “I am very happy playing because I love table tennis.

My dad taught me the game. My opponents are far better than me, but I hope to keep training so I can play better next time.” The tournament was organized by the Efunkoya Sports Foundation in collaboration with the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation and attracted over 130 players, including 82 boys and 54 girls.

It was held in honor of the late Adegboyega Efunkoya, a former president of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, with his son, Segun Adegboyega, emphasizing the importance of combining sports with education.
