National U-15 Table Tennis Championships Kick Off in Lagos

The seventh edition of the Adegboyega Efunkoya Sports Foundation’s National U-15 Table Tennis Championships began in Lagos on Tuesday with a two-day clinic held at the indoor hall of the National Stadium. The main tournament is scheduled for August 13 to 15, where new champions are anticipated.

Hundreds of young athletes are participating in the clinic, which focuses on enhancing their strokes, footwork, and tactical skills while promoting discipline and innovation. The program includes physical conditioning and modern training techniques to prepare players for competition and attract national selectors.

Babatunde Obisanya, Chairman of the Foundation and former national team coach, emphasized the support from global stakeholders and the Foundation's commitment to combining sports with education. The championship has previously produced notable talents for Nigeria’s national teams, including Matthew Kuti, who is now a key member of the senior squad and Africa’s reigning U-19 champion.

The Foundation aims to continue the legacy of Dr. Adegboyega Efunkoya, promoting table tennis among junior players in schools.
