Benue Residents Urge Governor Alia to Address Flooding Issues

On Monday evening, heavy rainfall in Benue led to severe flooding that submerged houses in several residential areas, including Achussa, New GRA, behind Radio Benue, Nyiman, Idye, Naka Road, North Bank, Ankpa Quarters, Tilley Gyado-Terwase Agbadu, Wurukum, and Wadata. Residents reported that the flooding destroyed household items and foodstuff, leaving many commuters stranded.

Frank Tion, a local resident, blamed the flooding on blocked drainage channels due to ongoing road construction, calling for Governor Hyacinth Alia to instruct contractors to clear these channels for better water flow. Tion highlighted that the indiscriminate closure of roads and drainage by construction companies has exacerbated the flooding situation.

Another resident, Theresa Andyson, noted that the flooding could have been worse without the large drainages already constructed by the government, but also pointed out that the numerous construction projects in the city have contributed to the blockage of water channels.
