FG and Lagos State Collaborate to Combat Flooding

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, the Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, is working with the Lagos State Government to tackle flooding, enhance water supply, and improve sanitation. During an assessment visit to flood-prone communities in Lagos, Prof. Utsev highlighted the importance of Lagos as a rapidly growing city and its implications for Nigeria and Africa.

This visit is part of a nationwide initiative to evaluate water resources and flood-related challenges across all states. The Minister commended the proactive measures taken by the Lagos State Government and associated agencies to mitigate flooding.

He noted that indiscriminate waste disposal into drainage systems contributes significantly to urban flooding and urged residents to maintain clean environments. The Minister also mentioned the innovative flood control measures, such as the Ilubirin Mechanical Pumping Station, and indicated that further assessments would be conducted to determine additional interventions, including potential hydropower integration in future projects.
