Atiku Urges Tinubu to Suspend Gbajabiamila Over Allegations

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and a member of the African Democratic Congress, has called on President Bola Tinubu to suspend Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila amid allegations of corruption. Abubakar's statement, issued on Tuesday, references the example set by former President Muhammadu Buhari, who suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal to allow for an independent investigation into corruption allegations.

Abubakar argues that Gbajabiamila should be given the opportunity to clear his name through an independent investigation, particularly concerning allegations that he illegally diverted ten billion naira in oil royalties. He criticizes the Tinubu administration for applying double standards in its anti-corruption campaign and for failing to address corruption within its ranks.

Abubakar insists that the government should prioritize the welfare of ordinary Nigerians over the personal wealth of political office holders. Gbajabiamila has denied the allegations and filed a defamation suit against Adeniyi Adeyemi, which he later withdrew.
