Igbo Leaders Claim Forces Undermining Aburi Accord Persist

Igbo religious leaders, including Rev. Toni Uzor, released a statement on Wednesday in Umuahia, expressing concern that forces that distorted the Aburi Accord in 1967 continue to work against the interests of the Igbo people.

They emphasized the need to confront ongoing betrayals affecting the Igbo nation. The leaders highlighted that the Aburi Accord was intended to restructure Nigeria on a confederal basis, ensuring autonomy for the eastern region.

They criticized the Nigerian military's actions, particularly the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the military's operations against the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The statement also referenced Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's imprisonment and the lack of credible evidence against him.

The religious leaders called for a reevaluation of the treatment of the Igbo people and urged for justice, questioning why Igbo governors have not engaged with Kanu's grievances and instead invited military intervention.
