Arewa Group Calls for Action Against Ethnic Profiling

The Arewa Peoples Unity Association has issued a statement condemning ethnic profiling against northern residents in the South West, specifically accusing Sunday Igboho of promoting actions that harass and intimidate innocent northern individuals, labeling them as criminals or terrorists. The group, led by National Chairman Alhaji Adamu Aliyu and National Secretary Dr. Aliyu Ahmad Tijjani, has called for federal government intervention to prevent further actions that could threaten national unity.

They expressed concern over the Lagos State government's urban renewal exercise, which has disproportionately affected traders and residents of northern descent, particularly in Alaba Rago, resulting in significant losses. The association argues that while the government has the right to implement urban renewal policies, it must also provide adequate compensation and alternative relocation measures for those affected.

They warn that failure to address these concerns could exacerbate ethnic distrust and division, urging the Lagos State government to act promptly to ensure peace and coexistence among Nigerians.
