Abia Police Uncover 28 Skulls in Criminal Camp Raid

On September 27, 2026, the Abia State Police Command conducted an intelligence-led operation in a forested area of Umunneochi Local Government Area, targeting suspected criminal camps around Isuochi and Nneato communities. The operation, part of “Operation No Hideout for Criminal Elements in the State,” involved personnel from various units, including the Violent Crime Response Unit and Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
During the raid, the operatives found 28 human skulls and other bones, which are suspected to belong to kidnapping victims. The suspected occupants of the camps fled prior to the arrival of the police, leading to the discovery of the remains in the abandoned camps.
Maureen Chinaka, the command’s spokesperson, stated that some remains had already decomposed. Investigations are ongoing to identify the deceased and determine the circumstances of their deaths, as well as any connections to reported kidnapping cases in the area.
