Abia State Police Find 28 Skulls in Kidnapping Raid

On September 29, security operatives uncovered the remains of at least 28 individuals, including skulls and bones, during a raid on suspected criminal camps in the Umuaku and Nneato forests located in the Umunneochi local government area of Abia State. The Abia State Police Command confirmed that forensic investigations are currently underway to identify the victims and ascertain the cause of death.
Police spokeswoman Maureen Chinaka stated that the operation was initiated based on intelligence regarding suspected criminal activities in the area. Upon arrival, the operatives found that individuals at the camps had fled into the surrounding bush.
Police believe the remains are linked to kidnapping victims, and investigations are ongoing. Abia State Police Commissioner Wilfred Afolabi described this operation as part of a broader effort to locate and dismantle criminal hideouts throughout the state.
Residents have been encouraged to report any suspicious activities to assist in identifying the victims and linking the remains to unresolved kidnapping cases.
