Forged Letter Used to Create Fake Investment Council

During an investigation by the House of Representatives into the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, Accountant-General of the Federation Shamseldeen Ogunjimi disclosed that a forged State House letter was utilized to gain official recognition for the agency. Ogunjimi stated that his office acted on what appeared to be an authentic request from the presidency dated November 7, 2024, for the creation of an administrative code for the council.
Following this, the Accountant-General's office processed the request and approved it, although no public funds were ever allocated to the council. The council had requested an establishment grant of ₦27.4 billion, which was rejected due to a lack of budgetary provision.
Additionally, while the Central Bank of Nigeria opened two domiciliary accounts for the council, they remained inactive as the council did not meet regulatory requirements. Lawmakers expressed concern over how the council navigated government processes without raising suspicions.
