Joey Barton Faces Six More Months in Prison After Delay

Joey Barton, a former professional footballer, is set to remain in prison for an additional six months following the postponement of his assault trial at Crown Court, now scheduled for March 8, 2027. The hearing was adjourned by Judge David Potter as the case could not proceed as planned.

Barton, who appeared in court on his birthday dressed in a navy blue suit, remains on remand and will be held in custody unless he secures bail. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, which stems from an alleged incident on March 8, 2023, near the Huyton and Prescot Golf Club.

The court previously heard that Kevin Lynch, 51, a former non-league manager, was drinking with Barton at the club before the incident, resulting in Lynch being hospitalized with serious injuries, including potential loss of sight in one eye.
