Fortis Global Insurance Appoints New Board Directors

Fortis Global Insurance Plc announced the appointments of Dr Umar Faruk Umar as an Independent Non-Executive Director and Mr Ufuoma Ibru as a Non-Executive Director on its board, with approval from the National Insurance Commission. This decision was communicated in a regulatory notification signed by Company Secretary Halima Jimada and sent to the Nigerian Exchange Limited on Thursday.

The company aims to strengthen its board with experienced professionals to enhance corporate governance and provide strategic direction. Dr Umar Faruk Umar has over 40 years of professional experience, including extensive board and corporate governance roles, and holds a PhD in educational psychology from the University of Wisconsin.

He has served on various boards, including Ashaka Cement Plc and the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc. Mr Ufuoma Ibru, a legal practitioner with significant experience in hospitality and financial services, holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Oxford.

Both appointments come as Nigeria's insurance sector faces regulatory and structural changes.
