Foundation Launches Clubfoot Treatment for 73 Children

The Straight Child Foundation has commenced treatment for 73 children born with clubfoot across 24 specialized clinics operating in 12 Nigerian states. During a media briefing in Umuahia, Uchenna Egb, the foundation's cast coordinator, revealed that 90.9% of the enrolled children have already undergone tenotomy, a procedure aligned with internationally approved treatment standards for clubfoot correction.

Notably, 74.7% of the newly enrolled children are below 12 months old, a critical age bracket for successful early intervention. The treatment program, coordinated in partnership with health institutions, maintains an average of 4.1 cast visits per child, with the tenotomy procedure being carried out under supervision.

Data quality assessments are conducted by specialists trained in major partner medical facilities, including the University of Nigeria Nsukka Medical Centre in Enugu State and the Federal Teaching Hospital in Owerri, Imo State.
