Police Detain Officers Over Alleged Assault in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Police Command has detained several officers following an alleged assault on a civilian in Ohaukwu Local Government Area. The incident reportedly left the victim with a damaged eye.

A press statement issued on Monday, signed by the command's Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed that the officers involved in the altercation have been identified and transferred to the command headquarters. Commissioner of Police, Hope Urunwa Okafor, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to commence a thorough investigation.

Ukandu noted that the detained officers will face appropriate disciplinary procedures depending on the investigation's outcome. The command expressed sympathy for the victim, who is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, and assured the public that the matter will be investigated thoroughly and transparently.

The command reiterated its commitment to professional accountability and respect for citizens' fundamental rights, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance on any form of police misconduct.
