Anambra Native Doctor Sentenced to Six Years for Fraud

Onyebuchi Okocha, popularly known as Onyez Jesu, was sentenced to six years in prison and fined N20 million by the Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka. Justice Jude Obiora delivered the judgment on Friday after Okocha was found guilty on three charges related to promoting wealth through supernatural means via social media.

His arrest occurred in February 2025, following accusations of engaging in ritual practices and misleading the public with claims of possessing supernatural powers capable of making people wealthy unlawfully. The court determined that while Okocha admitted to owning a social media account that promoted these claims, he was discharged on two counts due to a lack of evidence proving any ritualistic killings or financial benefits from such practices.

Justice Obiora emphasized that the propagation of ideas suggesting wealth acquisition through supernatural means is prohibited under the Anambra Homeland Security Law. Okocha, who broke down in tears during sentencing, pleaded for leniency, citing his role as a breadwinner for his family.
