Court Remands Native Doctor Ikechukwu Ezenagu in Anambra

Ikechukwu Ezenagu, a native doctor popularly known as Muomiri Afuluanya, has been remanded by the Anambra State High Court in Awka following allegations of violating the state's homeland security law. Justice Jude Obiora presided over the case, which was initially brought to court on April 23.

Ezenagu's counsel, Kingslei Awuka, filed a bail application on health grounds, requesting that he be allowed to remain in the hospital until the next court date. However, prosecuting counsel Tobeckwu Nweke opposed the application, urging the court to remand Ezenagu until the bail motion is determined.

Justice Obiora ruled that the hospital does not qualify as a detention facility for accused persons and ordered Ezenagu to be remanded in a correctional facility. The case will continue on June 19.

Ezenagu was arrested on March 26 by operatives of the Anambra State Government's security outfit, Agunechemba, during a search operation in Nnewi.
