Fulani Herdsmen Attack Ondo Community in Benue State

On a Monday night, suspected armed Fulani herdsmen attacked the Ondo community of Ugboju in the Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State. The attack occurred in the early hours, leading to residents fleeing their homes on Tuesday morning.

Reports indicate that 18 people lost their lives during this incident, although the exact number of casualties and the extent of property damage have not been independently verified. Jimmi Nart, a candidate for the Labour Party in the 2027 elections, confirmed the incident and urged residents to protect themselves amid ongoing violence.

The situation has heightened concerns regarding security in Benue State, where repeated attacks on farming communities have resulted in loss of life and displacement of residents. Efforts to obtain an official response from the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the public relations officer, DSP Udem Edet, did not respond to calls or text messages seeking confirmation of the incident.
