Adeleke Faces Opposition in Defection to APC

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke considered defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) but faced considerable resistance from APC leaders. Bamidel Salam, chairman of the Imo Campaign Council, disclosed that Adeleke received an invitation to consult with APC stakeholders but encountered opposition from influential figures within the party.

Concerns arose that Adeleke's entry into the APC could disrupt political calculations ahead of future elections. Despite initial discussions about joining the APC, the process became difficult as members openly opposed his move.

Salam indicated that Adeleke ultimately abandoned the idea when it became clear there was no consensus within the APC regarding his admission. Following prolonged leadership disputes within the PDP, Adeleke sought an alternative platform as the deadline for candidacy nominations approached.

The upcoming Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, with Salam expressing confidence in Adeleke's popularity among voters despite concerns about security challenges in the state.
