Army Officer Linked to Alleged Coup Against Tinubu

An Army officer, Colonel Mohammed Ma’aji, is currently on trial for his involvement in an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu, scheduled for 2025. Court documents reveal that he allegedly acquired six vehicles valued at N65 million during a critical period of the conspiracy.

An automobile dealer in Abuja testified that he was contacted by a man named Aliyu, who introduced him to Colonel Ma’aji. The dealer stated that on September 26, 2025, he was asked to help find a Toyota Corolla, leading to the purchase of three Toyota Hilux trucks, one Toyota Prado SUV, and two Toyota Corolla cars.

Payment for the vehicles was made in two transfers: N46.5 million on September 27, 2025, followed by N18.5 million. After the second payment, a man collected most of the vehicles, leaving the two Corollas at the dealership.

The Federal Government is prosecuting six suspects in the Federal High Court in Abuja, with other military officers facing trial before a General Court Martial. All defendants have pleaded not guilty.
