Gbenga Elegbeleye has significantly impacted the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) by implementing a stable August-to-May operating calendar, aligning it with global professional leagues. This change addresses previous issues of irregular schedules and administrative disruptions, facilitating better planning for clubs, players, and stakeholders.

Elegbeleye's experience in sports administration includes serving in the House of Representatives and as Director-General of the National Sports Commission since May 2013, where he focused on grassroots and school sports development. His leadership is assessed through tangible outcomes, moving the NPFL towards a structured professional football business.

Before his current role, he led the Interim Management Committee responsible for restructuring the league. The establishment of a predictable season is seen as a foundational step toward professionalism in Nigerian football, benefiting all stakeholders involved.
