FRSC Supports Life Sentence for Truck Driver Over Officer's Death

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has endorsed a life imprisonment sentence for truck driver Okpara Onyekachi after a fatal road crash that claimed the life of an FRSC officer in Lagos State. The incident occurred during a routine traffic enforcement operation in Orile Iganmu on November 16, 2023.

Investigations revealed that Okpara negligently drove his truck at excessive speed, leading to the tragic collision that resulted in the officer's death. The High Court of Lagos State, in case LD 24692C 2024, found Okpara guilty of involuntary manslaughter due to his gross negligence and reckless actions.

FRSC's Corp Marshal, Malam Shehu Moham, emphasized the importance of holding reckless drivers accountable to prevent further loss of life on Nigerian roads. The FRSC vowed to intensify enforcement efforts, enhance prosecution support, and collaborate with stakeholders to address dangerous driving behaviors nationwide.

The agency also honored the memory of the fallen officer, emphasizing the risks faced by road safety personnel daily.
