FRSC Warns Nigerian Motorists of Hazards Amid Prevailing Hazy Weather

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Nigeria has cautioned motorists nationwide to exercise increased caution during the prevailing hazy weather conditions, which are significantly reducing visibility on major highways and increasing the risk of road traffic accidents. The warning, issued by FRSC's Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemid, highlighted the dangers posed by the current dust haze, impairing drivers' vision and increasing the likelihood of accidents.

FRSC Marshal Shehu Moham emphasized the importance of reducing speed and reaction time in such hazardous conditions, advising strict compliance with traffic regulations and safe driving practices. Motorists were urged to maintain safe distances, ensure proper functioning of vehicle lights, and report emergencies to FRSC's toll-free line.

The agency assured the public of heightened patrol and traffic enforcement to ensure compliance and provide necessary assistance. This advisory comes amidst the Harmattan-related weather patterns in January 2026, with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency predicting hazy sunshine across the country.
