Fubara Defends Rivers LG Payroll Clean-Up as Non-Political

Rivers State Governor Fubara defended his administration's payroll verification exercise across the 23 local government areas, stating it aims to eliminate ghost workers and promote fiscal discipline. Speaking during the inauguration of the Omademe Internal Roads Project in Ikwerre Local Government Area, he clarified that the clean-up is not politically motivated and is focused on ensuring only legitimately employed workers are on the payroll.

Fubara noted that issues of bloated payrolls predated his administration and that efforts to address them began before the emergency rule in the state. He highlighted his background as a Treasury Officer, which he applied to the exercise, and mentioned the involvement of ICT personnel to ensure transparency.

The governor urged political leaders to refrain from politicizing the exercise, emphasizing that governance should be based on facts. He reiterated his commitment to adding value to the lives of residents through ongoing projects until the end of his tenure.
