Eight African Nations Eligible for K-ETA to South Korea

South Korea has officially designated eight African countries whose citizens can enter the country using the Korea Electronic Travel Authorisation (K-ETA), a system that simplifies the entry process by eliminating the need for a traditional visa application. The eligible countries are Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mauritius, Morocco, Seychelles, South Africa, and Tunisia.

This electronic travel authorisation allows eligible travellers to apply online before departure, bypassing the standard visa process. However, access to this system remains limited for African passport holders, with notable absences of major economies such as Ghana, Kenya, and Egypt, whose citizens must continue to use the conventional visa application process at South Korean embassies or consulates.

The K-ETA provides a more convenient route for tourism, transit, or short-term stays, reducing the administrative burden associated with international travel from Africa. This announcement underscores the ongoing disparity in visa-free access for African travellers globally.
