UNIBEN Lecturers Continue Strike Over Salary Dispute

The University of Benin chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has decided to continue its indefinite strike due to the incomplete payment of August salaries. This decision was made on Friday after the university management failed to provide necessary details regarding the payments.

The strike began on Wednesday, with lecturers alleging they received only half of their salaries for August. A communique issued after an ASUU congress, signed by Chairman Enaruna Edosa and Secretary Lucky Aimiyekagbon, stated that the university administration had only partially paid salaries up to August 2026.

The congress expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of clarity on the payments and resolved to continue the strike until full salaries are disbursed. In contrast, the university's Public Relations Officer, Benedicta Ehannire, denied the claims, asserting that all academic staff were paid their full salaries for August 2026.
