Sokoto Residents Protest Against Bandit Attacks, One Shot

On Friday, residents displaced by bandit attacks in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State protested against ongoing violence, blocking the Tambuwal-Jega and Tambuwal-Aleiro roads until about 1 PM. They demanded the urgent deployment of security personnel to protect their communities and facilitate their return home.

Witnesses reported that the protesters, who had fled villages such as Margai, Girkau, Romon Liman, Romon Sarki, and Masu, expressed their anger over repeated killings and kidnappings. Videos from the protest showed a large group of youths chanting “We want justice” and burning tires.

An All Progressives Congress (APC) office was reportedly set on fire during the protest, although video evidence did not confirm this. A young man named Usama Ibrahim was shot in the thigh, allegedly by security personnel.

The residents called on both the Federal Government and Sokoto State Government to enhance security measures in the affected areas, as continued attacks have severely impacted farming and economic activities.
