INEC Publishes 2027 Presidential Candidates' Details

On October 17, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the personal particulars of 19 presidential candidates for the 2027 presidential election, including President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The list also included their running mates: Vice President Kashim Shettima for Tinubu, Rotimi Amaechi for Atiku, and Rabiu Kwankwaso for Obi.

This publication is in accordance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which requires INEC to publish candidates' particulars within 21 days of receipt. Notably, former President Goodluck Jonathan was missing from the list, as was Gbenga Olawepo Hashim, who claimed to represent the Accord Party.

The details released included candidates' academic records and were made public ahead of the official commencement of political campaigns on August 19, 2026.
