Nigeria Ranks 90th in Henley Passport Index 2026

Nigeria has slipped to 90th position in the latest Henley Passport Index, released on July 2026, with Nigerian passport holders able to access 44 destinations without prior visa requirements. This ranking reflects a one-place drop from the previous index, although the visa-free score has remained unchanged.

The index, marking its 20th anniversary, evaluates 199 passports based on the number of destinations accessible without a visa, utilizing data from the International Air Transport Association. Among African nations, South Africa holds the strongest passport, ranking 49th globally with access to 101 destinations.

Nigeria shares its ranking with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Turkmenistan. Globally, Singapore maintains the most powerful passport, allowing access to 192 destinations.

The report also notes that Nigeria previously climbed six places between January 2024 and April 2026, despite losing access to several countries.
