Children of Former Leaders Contest for 2027 National Assembly Seats

As political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections, the children of several former Nigerian presidents, governors, and prominent political figures are among those seeking seats in the National Assembly. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027.

Notable candidates include Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the incumbent senator for Kogi Central, seeking re-election on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform; Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, contesting for the Ogun Central senatorial seat; and Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, linked to the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency contest in Katsina State. Other candidates include Bello El-Rufai, Chinedum Orji, Adamu Atiku, Blessing Onuh, and Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, all vying for various seats in the upcoming elections.
